Service Everyday guarding Basically - NO
Generation Natural, uncontrolled by human (strongest dogs have priority) Artificial - human-made decision (based on results of exhibitions)
Aim of reproduction Basic economic necessity - guarding of flocks and home from beasts and human Hobby, Leisure - Exhibition prizes
Selection Born puppies are selected at 1-2-3 weeks age (and given life) Gown-up dogs are sertificied on exibitions

Special notes:

  • Nagazi are hunting maise and insects kind of sarancha (which are in great amounts on the fields) - which is giving them good addition to food given by human. During summer time most dogs are good fat.

  • Georgian scientist, professor of ethnography S.Makalatia in his book "Tusheti" describes, that most often food provided by shepherds for Nagazi was boiled after-milk products „დო“ and „იფქალი“ - fried *fqvili*. Also is mentioned boiled after-products of sheep's meat. Nagazi newer was given non boiled meat and other products of sheep's (as the after can kill and eat ships).

  • Nagazi have free access to all territory mountainous village and all dogs of village are forming one canine wing - where most powerful dog naturally becomes a Master and a head of the wing (artificial dog fights can not give us real hierarchy of dogs and natural priority among dogs wing).

  • Having free access to all village means, that dogs are to be patient to inhabitants (especially children - who often are best friends of the dogs and are playing with them). Over-aggressive dogs are immediately eliminated.

  • There is big difference in how humans are attending to dogs inside Caucasus region - Muslims count dogs as "dirty" animals (like pigs) and try not touch them and dogs are not allowed to be near humans homes... This is main "secret" why Georgian Nagazi is superior toward other Caucasian dogs... Vise versa Tushetians are care dogs very carefully, are giving to puppies best food (even they themselves sometime have not enough) and pay other attention (note in films and photos, that Tushetians transport puppies on horse bags - as if they are treasure).
